Working on the computer from home makes it hard to maintain active friendships.
- To make matters worse, most of my friends from college have left the state for jobs, family, or graduate school.
The only friend remaining in the area is now busy 24/7 with a hectic job and an infant at home. He’s not exactly available to go get drinks on the weekends, nor would I expect him to. But this means that the only social interaction that I get is digital. Between being cooped up in my house and not getting much exercise outside, I decided to find group physical training classes where I could meet new friends while getting active again. There are so many gyms and fitness centers in my city that I was initially overwhelmed by the selection. Since I didn’t want to commit to a yearlong membership, that narrowed down the list of options significantly. I called all of the locations and eventually settled on one particular health and fitness center. They won me over with their prices and the number of group physical training classes that they offer. Now I’m getting fit and meeting new people every week. I have a friend who I like to get drinks with after we work out, as well as a woman who I’m taking out on a date later this week. Thus far my goal of getting healthy and meeting new people has been a roaring success. I’m a fan of their certified fitness experts as well. They’re helpful and motivating without being too overbearing or pushy like some personal trainers tend to be.
