Houses built in a wise fashion may not need an air conditioner

Have you ever turned the air conditioner off in your house? Almost immediately, your house begins to heat up like you accidentally left your furnace on.

Until you turn your air conditioner back on, you will remain absolutely miserable in your hot and stuffy house! It always made me wonder how people that lived before the invention of the air conditioner managed to live and enjoy being in their houses during the day. How could anyone want to live inside a house without an air conditioner, especially if you lived in a hot climate? The weirdest part to me was that when I read anything from the literature that was written during those time periods, they seemed to enjoy themselves despite the fact that there weren’t any air conditioners. After doing some research, I began to realize that people built their houses differently back then in order to make the need for air conditioners void. Back in those days, when they had no air conditioning, they built their houses differently. For instance, if you were to build your house in the trees or partially underground, then you could eliminate your need for an air conditioner. Being in those locations would lower the temperature of your home substantially. Only since the invention of the air conditioner did people start building their houses in the open as we do now. I also learned that with proper house orientation and window placement, you could easily provide a cool breeze for your house throughout the day, further eliminating your need for an air conditioner.
