How many years will the old a/c unit last?

When I purchased a new a/c unit for my house, I had a lot of questions I wanted answered. They tried to sell me an extended warranty the afternoon I purchased the AC unit. They asked me if I wanted a service agreement plus told me what it was going to cost. They simply wanted to offer many add-ons to extend the warranty, although I wanted my questions answered first; I wanted to know exactly what the warranty covered, plus how long I had to purchase the extended warranty. If the extended warranty for the AC unit didn’t go into effect until the original warranty ended, why was I being pressured to buy it the afternoon the AC unit was installed? I also wanted to know why I needed a service agreement, if the warranty included service, at least for the first year. I also wanted to know how long the central a/c unit would last. The heating, ventilation as well as A/C supplier started answering my questions, however he started with the simple one, then he said if I had proper service done on the a/c unit; plus changed the air filters as recommended, the AC unit would last at least fifteen years. He said the service agreement would help keep the warranty intact by giving me two years of service on the entire heating, ventilation as well as A/C system. It also covered the cost of repairs plus small parts needed when the service was done. I asked if they included the air filters with the service agreement. He smiled and told me to ask nicely, plus he would supply me a free case of air filters for the heating, ventilation as well as A/C system for the two years of the service agreement.
