HVAC heating costs don’t have to be so high

So this year, I’m on top of getting the house sealed up tight for the winter.

When I moved into my first home, I was just so excited to be a homeowner. After all those years of renting, it was so nice to know that I was actually building some equity and owned where I lived. However, this also came with a bit of a learning curve as well. There was a lot to learn. When the stuff like the HVAC equipment needed service, it was up to me. And I made sure that this was one of the things that I addressed right away. I had the HVAC professional come out to do the heating maintenance early so I knew that the gas furnace would be in great shape for the winter. And that was a good thing. I certainly didn’t want to have an HVAC heating breakdown in the middle of my first winter in my own home. Still, I was sort of shocked at the heating bills that first winter. The HVAC equipment was only 4 years old and was in great shape. Plus, I had the HVAC technician do all the heating maintenance. But what I didn’t know was that preparing the house for winter was just as important as preparing the gas furnace. So this year, I’m on top of getting the house sealed up tight for the winter. I replaced a storm door along with all the weather stripping around every entrance. I added insulation to the attic and caulked every gap in the exterior of the house that I could find. This winter will be a lot warmer in my house and I won’t have to pay such high HVAC heating utility costs either.
