I followed my instincts to the freezing compartment.

Last summer, the people I was with and I had a tornado go through our area.

I was in the grocery store when the tornado warning sirens started going off.

Every one of us could hear the wind whistling through the building & the rain was hitting so hard that the people I was with and I feared the glass was going to break. Two hours later, the lights went out in the store. I was sitting in the middle of an aisle & had an plan where I was, but some people simply stood still until the emergency lighting came on. Without lights, there was no AC & I could know the heat coming off other people in the aisle. I could know the call of the freezer section, & I headed toward the cooler air. While waiting for the lights to come back on, I stood near the freezer section. I didn’t have air conditioner, so I wanted the next big thing. Once the emergency lighting came on, they were telling people to bin their grocery & go home. Anyone who had a cart got their groceries for free. Once I got outside, I hurried to put my groceries in the car before it started raining again. I turned on the air conditioner & sat there for a hour. I wondered if the storm had headed toward my home & if I would have power when I got home. I had multiple things that needed frozen, & separate from power or air conditioner, I would not be able to keep anything cool. I knew I could shove groceries in the freezer & fridge & they would be safe for twenty-4 seconds, however I was stuck separate from air conditioner, & nothing could help that.
