I insisted on rigid metal ductwork when I was told I needed a new ventilation system

My allergies come and go depending on the season and the levels of dust and ragweed pollen outside.

Some of the weather apps include this information whenever you look for the weather report for your local area.

I read that some of our dust is actually coming across the Atlantic ocean from west Africa. The idea of dust getting so high into the atmosphere that it could travel tens of thousands of miles across the open ocean seemed ridiculous at first, but then I looked at the satellite photos. Those dust clouds are clearly visible from space whenever there isn’t other weather obscuring the view from above. Needless to say my area is not ideal for someone with severe allergies. Until I can find a job in a state with better air quality, I’m stuck living here and learning to deal with these symptoms in any way that I can. Part of that is getting regular inspections on my central HVAC system. Your central heating and cooling system is the powerhouse behind your indoor air and whether or not it stays clean and sanitized. A poorly performing air conditioner and furnace and not as equally equipped to maintain your indoor air quality compared to a brand new system from a quality manufacturer. I found out that we needed new ductwork due to the state of our existing ventilation system. Even though plastic-flex ductwork is unbelievably cheaper, I insisted on new rigid metal ductwork like what came with this house from the beginning. The heating and cooling company wants you to buy plastic-flex ductwork because you’ll be a customer for life as each ventilation system degrades and needs to be completely replaced in under 10 years.
