When I graduated from high school, there was a lot of pressure on me to get into a good college.
The thing is, I wasn’t sure if that was the route I wanted to take. I wasn’t actually sure what I wanted to do exactly and I needed some time to think. My parents thought I was not even going to attend a college when I spoke of taking a short break. I just wanted to have some time to consider what I really wanted to do in life. I ended up going on a roadtrip with my buddies, and honestly, it was exactly what I needed. I met a lot of great people, but there were these particular people at a random bar that I had a great conversation with. They saw we were just youngsters fresh outta high school, and they were curious what colleges we wanted to go to. I expressed my uncertainty about going to a regular college when I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life just yet. Then they told me that I could always consider learning a trade. The guy told me about his nephew and how he chose to become an HVAC professional. He said it didn’t take longer than a year of schooling, but it was hard work. He said that his nephew makes a good amount of money with his work and he loves his job. This stayed with me and I kept thinking how I would love to start a real career within the year. So I ended up getting into a trade school and I made my way into the HVAC industry. My parents weren’t even disappointed, so long as I did something with my life.
