I thought collecting old air conditioning units was normal.

I remember going to the town dump with my best friend. We used to find a lot of interesting things at the dump. One afternoon, we brought home an old air conditioning unit. We worked on the AC unit for almost two weeks before we got some air to come out of it. My mom nor dad thought we would ever get the AC unit running, and it shocked them to see we had. My best friend and I had an old shack we called our clubhouse. We took an extension cord and plugged it in through his bedroom window. It took three extension cords for us to get to the air conditioning unit that we put in the clubhouse’s window. That entire summer, we relaxed in air conditioning and played video games. When I got older, it was a given that I would become an HVAC technician. I loved being able to bring a furnace or air conditioning back to life, but I also still loved bringing old AC units home from the dump. I would spend hours and weeks getting the AC units working. I thought collecting old AC units was normal until my wife asked why I had so much junk in the backyard. I told her I was fixing them. She smiled and said she was glad to hear that. There were several families in the neighborhood that couldn’t afford AC, and she wanted to donate one to every family. Little did I know that my obsession with air conditioning was going to do so much good for so many people. I called my best friend and told him our hobby had become a charity.
