The group fitness classes fill up
I have been a member of my local gym since the doors opened nearly fifteen years ago. I visit the gym an average of four or five days per week and spend approximately an hour on my workouts. The wide selection of machines and equipment are extremely helpful. I’m able to change up the style of workout from one day to the next and keep the sessions interesting and beneficial. Because there are multiple treadmills, stationary bikes, ellipticals, rowing machines, weight training machines and every imaginable type of fitness equipment, I rarely need to wait to use the one I want. The only time the gym is crowded is during the months of January and February. Every year, the gym offers discounts on memberships around Christmas time. A whole bunch of people decide to make a New Year’s resolution to get in shape. They take advantage of the special price, sign up and show up at the gym in brand new sneakers and expensive exercise attire. These people typically have no clue how to properly workout. They fail to warm up, neglect to wipe down the equipment after using it and spend a lot of time chatting or looking at their phones. They really like the idea of getting fit but don’t want to put in the actual effort to accomplish anything. It is somewhat annoying that I all of a sudden can’t find an empty locker for my coat. I need to wait to use machines or the showers. The group fitness classes fill up. Fortunately, the problem only lasts for a couple of months. Typically, by the end of March, 90% of these people have stopped showing up at the gym.
