Winter is rapidly arriving and I have been worried because last year the HVAC technician told us we really should have a new furnace installed before the winter season begins. In another month or so, we will be having snow and ice outside. I’m not looking forward to the winter, but I dread it if our furnace doesn’t work properly. I couldn’t imagine what it was going to be like in our home if we were to have our heating go out when it was during a cold snap. I told my wife I thought it was time to call the HVAC company and make a decision on a new furnace or some kind of heating system. We discussed what we wanted the most and I really didn’t want to keep the ductwork because there was always so much dust. We talked about getting a heat pump but we were worried about whether it would work properly when the temperatures went below freezing for a couple weeks. My wife told me that since we already had the ductwork, she thought that it would be best if we stuck with a furnace that we knew would work well for us. We opted to purchase an oil furnace over the gas furnace we had previously owned. I worried constantly that we would have a problem with the gas furnace and we would end up with carbon monoxide in our home. This was a big fear for my wife, since she had a friend who had died due to carbon monoxide. I think the oil furnace will be cleaner and much safer for our family.
