So now we are worrying less about the air conditioning and more about the heat in our new home prospects
My husband and I will be moving up north in a few months. I keep telling him that older people move further south, not north, when they reach their retirement years. However, his daughter lives in the north and he would like to be closer to her and the grandkids. Honestly, so do I. As we were looking at houses to buy we kept filtering out anything that does not have central heating and air conditioning. However, we are finding very few houses with air conditioners. Instead, we keep finding this thing called a heat pump. Apparently it is like a regular HVAC system but different. Apparently the heating aspect works better than the cooling aspect. When we shared our concerns with my step-daughter, she told us that we don’t need central air conditioning. She only has a window air conditioning unit herself and she reassured us that a heat pump will be more than sufficient. Of course, proper heat is a lot more important than air conditioning in the north. It will be quite an adjustment to go from a climate where we run the air conditioner 9 months out of the year to a new climate where we run the furnace 9 months out of the year. But I am sure that we can adjust in time. In fact, I am looking forward to experiencing real seasons. I’ve never really experiences all the leaves changing in fall or a white winter. So now we are worrying less about the air conditioning and more about the heat in our new home prospects. I can’t wait for us to settle on a place and move up north.
