Sometimes you wish you could divorce your family, but it never happens.
My wishing to divorce my parents was when they told me it wasn’t my decision on what I took when I was in college. They were paying for my tuition and they would choose my life course for me. I told dad i was going to be an HVAC technician, and he just glared at me. My father told me he didn’t care what I wanted. He told me what I wanted while I lived in his house. Although I was only sixteen, I packed all of my personal stuff and went to my grandfather’s house. I thought grandfather would understand where I was coming from, but he didn’t. He listened to me talking about being an HVAC technician and he told me it was a worthy career. He asked if I had explained to my parents why I wanted to be a HVAC technician and not go to college. I whined that they never listened, and he ignored me. He said if I talked about my career in that whiney tone of voice, he wouldn’t listen either. After putting my bags back in my hands, he pushed me out the door and told me to go home and talk to my parents like a man instead of like a little boy. This time, my parents listened, and they offered to pay for HVAC school after I graduated from high school. I think my entire argument with my parents was because I sounded like a brat and not because they didn’t want me to be an HVAC technician.
