I have a friend who is just the genuine picture of self reliance.
Well, that is until just recently sadly.
This guy, whom I’ve known for nearly 40 years, has been a complete maverick his whole life. He’s never been a single to shoot for the corner office with the zone controlled heating and A/C. Nope, he has regularly been about self sufficiency and residing as simply as possible. And no, he’s not doing it for any other reason than it’s how he wants to live his life. He doesn’t judge anyone else for their choices and that is so refreshing. My friend lives in a neat apartment on something as vast as 50 acres. He has a sizable garden plus some livestock. His oil furnace for the Wintertide has been a wood stove and his air conditioner is some shade and as much breeze as he can catch. However, all of us are aging and with that comes some change. He recently found out about a pretty major health complication he’ll surely have to deal with. Other friends and I then rallied around him. Both of us got the rest of his wood for heating, cut and finally put up. And all of us are taking turns making sure he gets to appointments and gets some overnight care if he needs it. This guy has regularly been there for all of us. It’s wonderful that all of us can also be there for him. Some of us decided to get the heating and A/C contractor to go out and also install a ductless heat pump for this Wintertide if he can’t actually make a fire. Like I said, he’s been there for us so getting him access to some heating and A/C heating is surely small potatoes.
