When I asked my wife to pick up some air filters the other day, I was surprised when she came back with the cheapest air filters she could find.
She was happy because she said she found the best deal on air filters and they were the right size for our HVAC system.
She was extremely disappointed when I told her to please take them back. She asked right away what the problem was. She thought I was just being a mean grouch as I guess I do act like sometimes. But this was more of a serious concern than anything else. I would not use cheap air filters in my HVAC system because they won’t improve the air quality and they don’t protect your HVAC system. By using these air filters that she picked up, we might end up experiencing HVAC complications down the road and our children might have trouble breathing with poor air quality. I didn’t want to do that at all, I didn’t care if the air filters were free! Well, it was disappointing because she said the store refused to take back the air filters. That’s when I took the air filters and went myself. I showed them the receipt and I told them my wife was misled on the quality of these air filters. They tried to give me the same issue about not being able to return items that were on sale, but I made a big issue of it. They ended up processing the return because they didn’t want to deal with me and I ended up getting some quality air filters with a high MERV rating. Now in my wife’s defense, I probably should have told her not to get cheap air filters with a low MERV rating, but I just assumed she would know that.
