I come from a humid region where warm climate is the order of the day. You can walk into any local contractor’s shop and find more furnace/heater appliances than commercial air conditioning parts. So this Saturday we made a beeline to my neighbor’s housewarming party within the gated community. It was meant to be a private garden party but turns out we were fewer than anticipated so they moved us indoors. Now most houses in this neighbourhood are old town houses that are well beyond their prime life but renovations have been going on for a while. My house was recently done with heat pump repair and my neighbor’s house was next but we dint understand why he moved into a house with incomplete renovation work. The party was less than eventful and most people kept leaving the house for fresh air outside and coming back in. Needless to say, this house lacked adequate cooling but at least the agents were working on upgrading the HVAC systems. To reduce rising furnace/heater repair cases, they were installing appliances that encourage energy saving help. Top priority was installation of ductless HVAC, ductless heat pump, which some know as mini split air conditioner. There were 5 houses under renovation at the moment and the local contractor who apparently specialised in commercial air conditioning system was assigned the task to liaise with a landlord-appointed a/c professional to ensure that every upgrade went as planned. The landlord himself recently installed heated floors for his personal units when he renovated his units. Since he lives in the same compound with us, he understood exactly what his tenants were going through but I had one question for him to answer why as an a/c rep himself, why did he have to rely on a hired a/c repairman to do the job!
