I recently bought a fixer upper home.
The worst part of the house is the living room.
The entire room was made out of wood and looked like an old barn. I started ripping out the wood floors and replaced them with tile. I then sanded the wood walls and painted over them with white. The next step was scraping the popcorn ceiling and painting that white. Right now I am up on super high ladders trying to edge around wood beams and paint my ceiling white. Being up high in the air has shown me some things wrong in my house. Not only is it filthy up there, but it is super hot. The heat definitely rises in my house and lingers there. I am already worried about heating in the wintertime. My tall ceilings are not going to be fun. Basically the heat will be 12 feet in the air while I freeze at a normal level. What is even more worrisome is that I discovered all the air vents are high on the ceiling. In the summer having AC blowing super high in the air is not going to be any good. I won’t even feel it. I also peaked down into the vent and noticed the ductwork is off center. The opening for the air vent is not perfect. So that means I am not even getting all the cold air my HVAC produces. How horrible is that? I am going to have a whole mess of HVAC related problems once I finish up in the living room. I am already dreading it.
