My husband and I spent nearly a year touring houses.
We were very particular about the location, size of the property and amenities of the home.
We were unwilling to invest in a home that needed major renovation. We wanted a minimum of four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, two-car garage and plenty of yard for the kids to play in. It took us a long time to find the ideal home within our price range. The property met all of our criteria and included a swimming pool, recently renovated kitchen and an extra bedroom. The only thing we weren’t totally thrilled with was the boiler heating system. We had always owned homes outfitted with a furnace in the past. My husband and I were both under the impression that a boiler would be noisy, dirty and a great deal of work. We were totally mistaken. The boiler operates silently and requires only annual maintenance. Because it is a hydronic system with a closed loop, it doesn’t introduce any contaminants into the air. The operation is much cleaner than a furnace. There are no vents blowing hot air and dust into the rooms. Plus, the heat doesn’t float straight up to the ceiling. The boiler links to baseboard heaters installed around the perimeter of the various rooms. The heat radiates in the room at floor level from all directions. This process eliminates drafts and cold spots. There is not unpleasant stratification. I don’t need to arrange furniture to accommodate vents. My husband and I now agree that the boiler is one of the best features of the home. No matter how cold the weather outside, the indoor living environment is perfectly comfortable.
