Temperature fluctuations while traveling

I spent my entire day traveling.

  • I set an alarm extra early and got up to take my shower before the sun came up.

I then bundled up in my warmest boots, coat, gloves and hat and spent half an hour shoveling snow out of the driveway, brushing it off the car and scraping ice off the windshield. I let the car run with the heater and defrost blasting the entire time. The drive to the airport usually takes around an hour. It was a much longer journey this morning because of the road conditions. The pavement was icy and there was constant snowfall. The piles of now in the airport parking lot limited the number of spaces. I had some difficulty finding a parking place and ended up walking a very long ways. I dragged my suitcase through a foot of snow and slush. With an outdoor temperature of ten degrees, I was shivering by the time I made it inside. I immediately got blasted by heat. I’m not sure why the airport terminal is so overheated. I couldn’t escape the hot air pouring from overhead vents. I peeled off my heavy coat and thick sweaters and stuck them in my checked luggage. I then sat around in the terminal, sweating for over an hour. Once I boarded the plane, I started wishing for my sweater. There was a steady stream of freezing cold air hitting me. I tried adjusting the tiny vent above my head, but it made no difference. I suffered through a layover for several hours, boarded a second plane and finally landed at my destination. By then, due to all the temperature fluctuations and terrible air quality, I had a giant headache. I was really relieved to check into my hotel room where I could control the thermostat.
