Over the past 10 years, technology and computers have really changed the way we work, play, and live.
Technology in our home has equally been changed during this time.
My family and I have had a heat pump in our home for the past 15 years. During the last few years, the monthly energy bills have skyrocketed. I attributed the larger bills to the age and wear and tear on my heat pump and air conditioner. When we decided to replace the old inefficient equipment, our contractor suggested updating to a machine with a higher SEER rating. The SEER rating on an HVAC unit is absolutely important. This number reflects the amount of energy efficiency the machine will have compared to others. The old heat pump in our home had a SEER rating of 8. It was top-of-the-line back in its day, but now the best machines have a SEER rating of 21. My wife and I updated to a machine with a SEER rating of 16. Since we don’t live in a climate where the air conditioner has to run constantly, we didn’t need a higher seasonal energy efficiency rating. Both of us have noticed a lot of changes since having the new heat pump installed. The difference has been like night and day. Our energy bills have drastically dropped. We spend an average of 20% less each month. We also enjoy the indoor air quality much more, because it is cool and crisp with less humidity. Updating to better HVAC technology has improved our bills and our quality of life.
