I was born and raised about thirty miles inland of the gulf coast.
Our family often took trips to the Gulf coast.
We would all get into the minivan and head to a campground that was nearer to our favorite beach. There were times when we would get tired of being in the water and my brothers and I would take walks through the small beachside village. The houses all seemed to have same weird vibe. They were small block homes and they were all painted bright vibrant colors. I was told they were designed to have the ‘Key West’ motif. They mostly had these small rooms in the back of the house that had gained the name of ‘Florida Room’. These Florida rooms, or sunrooms were all glass and they were often used like an enclosed patio. When I got older, I bought a home that had a sunroom at the back of the house. I loved the room, but I knew that I needed to have some air conditioning if I were to use the room. I opted to install a portable air conditioning unit into the room. Even though we had the capability to add ductwork in that area and put in an air vent so we could utilize the current air conditioning, we thought it would be cheaper to just use a portable air conditioner. The portable air conditioner has its own remote and it amazes me how quickly the temperature drops once it is turned on. The sunroom has become one of our favorite rooms in our home.
