Recently, I found myself traveling in the middle of nowhere, while I was visiting my best friend Lisa, who lives on a military base. I don’t normally travel to military bases, but Lisa insisted that I visit because she had some important news to share that she could not tell me over the phone. Anyway, this base was about 3 hours from my house, so the drive wasn’t terrible. But the drive does take you through some tiny unfamiliar towns. Well, as I drove to the base, I needed to stop to get some gas and to use the restroom. I pulled over to a gas station that looked like it was a popular pit stop. As I pulled up, I noticed a sign that advertised BBQ and I must admit the BBQ smelled amazing. When I walked inside the building to use the restroom, I was caught off guard by how modern the inside of the place was. I was expecting to find a tiny unassuming establishment with a window A/C that had been there for years. Instead, this gas station was recently renovated and everything was brand new including the mini split A/C unit that they had installed on the wall of the dining area. For a second, I honestly thought I was in the city and not a small town in the middle of nowhere. Anyway, the restroom was also newly renovated and it also had an air handler from the mini split unit installed, so it was quite comfortable inside the restroom. After stopping at the gas station and seeing how modern it was, I have decided to stop judging a book by its cover.
