Begrudgingly, I have to acknowledge that the end of spring has arrived. That means we are facing the toughest weather stretch of our year in this region. But honestly, I’m not really complaining. I’m lucky to live in a place where we get maybe the most perfect weather for 8 months of the year. The spring and the fall are incredible. The winter is excellent and needs little contribution from the heat pump. However, there is summer. That is a four month period where the temperature and the humidity stay near the century mark for four months straight. It’s just part of it and if I have to manage a sizzling summer, then that’s what I’ll do. Thankfully, we have great residential HVAC that provides all the HVAC cooling that we need. The thing is, we just have to balance the HVAC cooling with costs and don’t get in the habit of just staying inside the air conditioning all the time. That can be a tall order. That’s why we try not to get too much into air conditioning our home until the summer is upon us. This allows our bodies the opportunity to acclimate to the heat. So when it’s a hundred degrees outside, the thermostat setting of 84 sure feels nice and cool. We enjoy living here too much to just stay inside all summer. That said, it sure is nice to have the sort of HVAC equipment that we can count on when it gets just so hot. So now is the time to bid farewell to spring as the temperatures are consistently in the mid to upper 90’s. And that thermostat setting is now on cooling for the next 4 months.
