I have a dad with a very hard head.
And the older he gets, the more stubborn and hard headed he gets.
That’s saying a lot, trust me. This is the same guy who didn’t believe much of anything unless he saw it with his own eyes or the data proved it out. That’s just the way this guy is built. So let me tell you, I went round and round with him not too long ago over his HVAC equipment. My folks still live on their own independently but I can see the window for that is also closing. Mom called me at the office which is something she never does. The gas furnace was acting up and dad was determined to check it and fix it himself. He was at the hardware store when she called so I only had a quick window to get there to stop what would be a disaster. Dad is for sure a very mechanically inclined guy and did great on machines of his era. But he is nowhere close to an expert in anything HVAC. Mom said he would not, under any circumstances, call the HVAC company for something he could fix. Fortunately, I got there just before he did. I had long enough to find the HVAC warranty so I could confront dad with it. If it’s in black and white, dad will at least consider something. The warranty specifically stated that any repairs or service done by anyone other than a certified and licensed HVAC professional would void said warranty. Thankfully, seeing this spelled out in the warranty got him to call the HVAC company to come out. Jeez, that man and his hard head just about cost himself thousands of dollars.
