When it comes to advertising a HVAC business, I easily think the younger people have the advantage.
Bear in mind that I am using that term in context of the industry, so “younger” doesn’t mean twenty-somethings, it means forty-somethings. The old guard of this industry have been around for decades, and many of them still operate from an old-school mindset. The younger people are more tech-savvy, more aware of trends, and thus can reach out to customers more effectively. There are so many companies out there fighting for the same piece of the pie. The young lions have the edge, and let me tell you why, online advertising is the future of business, and young people are more tech savvy and open to trying digital advertising techniques that older people will scoff at. Old people may like to use social media like Facebook, will even spend hours a day looking at it, but still won’t try PPC ad campaigns because they don’t trust them. I talk to a lot of older folks, and not only do they not understand the concept of SEO (search engine optimization) but they have no desire to learn. These guys still think that advertising in newspapers and on billboards is a better investment than web design and Google ads! With that in mind, the older generation seems like they will be devoured by the young, who fully grasp the power of social media, search engines and web design. It is a bold new world of online advertising, you need to evolve or retire.
