I thought that I would easily be able to install a new thermostat in our house.
- I wanted to install one of those smart thermostats for my house so that I would be able to control the HVAC units from my phone.
I thought that this would be really cool. When I looked up how to install the thermostat online, they told me that if I was able to install a light switch or a receptacle, I would be able to wire up a new thermostat. Sadly, they didn’t mention that I didn’t have enough wires to hook up my thermostat. I tried taking the HVAC unit apart to see how to add a new wire, but when I looked at how the HVAC unit was installed, I realized that the HVAC technicians that we had been hiring had wired the HVAC unit in a very confusing way. I told my father that I would probably have to call an HVAC technician to have him install my thermostat even though it would be more expensive that way. When my dad asked me what was wrong with my thermostat, I told him. Apparently, he had just done that with his thermostat, and he was more than willing to help me with mine. He drove right over, and he quickly installed the thermostat. Even though the wiring was a mess, he had spent his entire life fixing the HVAC units at his own house because he was too poor to hire an HVAC technician. I asked him to show me how to do a few things, and he was more than willing to teach me so that I would be able to service my own HVAC units. I have a great dad.
